New F'IS Service: Torque Measurement
Estimating the remaining service life of drive components / process monitoring and optimisation / useful complement to vibration measurement / great versatility
Herzogenrath, November 23, 2007 - Torque measurement is a new service that FAG Industrial Services (F'IS) is offering its customers for estimating the remaining service life of drive components, as well as for monitoring and optimising production processes. Unlike vibration measurement, this method is used to monitor not individual parts but complete drive components. Torque monitoring - also in combination with vibration measurement - always makes sense in applications where drive elements must be protected from overstressing or where the right torque is important for the production process, for example in the rolling processes used in steel and aluminium production.
"Almost all industries can benefit from this service. Torque measurements can be performed even in rough ambient conditions, for example in rolling mills", explains Dr. Christian Schaaf, head of the Torque and Design Improvement department at F'IS. The measuring device can be integrated into existing drive trains without affecting the drive elements' mechanical properties. Depending on the individual customers' wishes and on the plant in question, the measurement is performed either sporadically or constantly.
The combination of torque measurement and vibration measurement permits a process analysis that provides maintenance personnel with detailed information on their plant's condition. This forms a sound basis for recommendations on how a process can be optimised. A plant's productivity can be increased significantly in this way. Moreover, the remaining service life of the drive components can be estimated reliably, which opens up a considerable savings potential in stockkeeping and spare parts procurement.
