Comprehensive Solutions for Wind Turbines: F'IS at EWEC 2008

Herzogenrath/Brussels, April 03, 2008. - FAG Industrial Services (F'IS) will present in Hall 7, Booth 7A122, a wide portfolio of innovative services and efficient products all about wind energy. Endoscopy, torque measurement and thermography create a new savings potential in addition to that offered by proven services such as remote monitoring, bearing mounting/repair, lubrication and reconditioning.
Intelligent online monitoring systems - developed especially for wind turbines - are the principal theme at the F'IS booth. FAG ProCheck and FAG WiPro enable operators to detect damage to wind turbines at an early stage. In this way, serious consequential damage can be prevented. The effectiveness of the FAG WiPro system was confirmed by Allianz Zentrum für Technik (AZT). Germanischer Lloyd has certified both the monitoring system and the F'IS monitoring center in Herzogenrath.
Endoscopy can be used as a valuable supplement to vibration monitoring. The extent of damage can be determined more accurately with the help of endoscopes. Both diagnosis methods used in combination make it easier to decide which measures should be taken. Torque measurements are performed to visualise excessively high loads that act on rotating parts like shafts or bearings. With this method, critical operating states can be detected in good time. Unplanned shutdowns made necessary by failure of a machine component can be prevented effectively in this way. Thermography is used to detect heat development by means of a high resolution infrared camera. This is a good method for selecting the measuring points for vibration analysis. It is also suitable for determining whether a bearing is lubricated with an unsuitable lubricant, with too little lubricant, and whether a bearing was correctly mounted.
