Explosion-proof monitoring
Special version of the online monitoring system FAG ProCheck allows monitoring in explosion risk areas
Herzogenrath, December 15, 2008. FAG Industrial Services (F'IS) has expanded its product portfolio to include a new version of the online monitoring system FAG ProCheck for use in explosion risk areas. The new product allows the vibration-based monitoring of plants, for example in the chemical industry as well as in the oil and gas sector. Wherever combustible gases, vapours, fluids and dusts are generated, the presence of oxygen and a source of ignition can quickly leads to an explosion. Any electrical unit constitutes a hazard here. The special pressure-encapsulated housing of the explosion-proof version of FAG ProCheck prevents the system coming into contact with an explosive atmosphere.
The explosion-proof version of FAG ProCheck was developed using ex-protection products from the company R. STAHL on the basis of the requirements of European Directive ATEX 95. This regulates, for example, the special requirements on explosion protection that systems and plant must satisfy in explosion-risk areas. The new version of FAG ProCheck fulfils all the requirements of this directive and allows installation and use of of the vibration measuring system in Equipment Group II G/Zone 1 (gas atmosphere). This classification applies to areas in which hazardous and explosive atmospheres may occasionally be formed during normal operation. Where there is a continuous explosive atmosphere hazard (Equipment Group II G/Zone 0), vibration sensors with the appropriate authorisation are used and linked to the FAG ProCheck via a safety barrier.
FAG ProCheck is a condition monitoring system used for the online monitoring of machinery and plants. It continuously records, for example, data on vibration, temperature and other process parameters. The analysis software allows reliable data evaluation. As a result, damages and their causes can be detected even at a very early stage and appropriate countermeasures can be introduced at the right time.
Where required, the product can also be supplied in compliance with other internationally valid explosion proofing standards.
