Innovative Solutions for Optimizing Maintenance and Reducing Costs - Reconditioning, Lubrication and Workshop Check

Herzogenrath/Berlin, September 9, 2010 - At this year's InnoTrans in Berlin, FAG Industrial Services (F'IS) is presenting a comprehensive range of product and service solutions for the maintenance of railway technology from September 21-24, 2010. On the booth of Schaeffler Group Industrial (Hall 21, Booth 116), the company places special focus on the reconditioning of wheelset bearings (TAROL) as well as a wide range of product and service solutions for effective maintenance.

One exhibition highlight will be the reconditioning of TAROL wheelset bearing units. The periodic high-quality maintenance and repair clearly extends the operating life of these heavily stressed double-row tapered roller bearings. Thanks to the speedy maintenance process, the customer also benefits from minimal downtimes. Maintenance consists of thorough cleansing of all bearing components as well as dimensional and functional inspections of the entire bearing unit. The axial clearance is readjusted and the bearings are regreased. Wear and tear parts are replaced wherever required. If requested by the customer, the bearing will be included in a database. This service offer applies to all wheelset bearings as well as cylindrical, spherical and tapered roller bearings. A certification of Deutsche Bahn AG confirms Schaeffler Group's high quality and specialized technical competence for the reconditioning of rolling bearings.

Unsuitable lubricant quantities and lubricants can cause bearings to wear quickly. The risk of that type of damage is reduced considerably by using the right lubrication. That is why Schaeffler offers special lubricants for wheelset bearings, which have to accommodate high loads, under the Arcanol brand of quality. In addition, our experts' lubricant recommendations help optimize the bearings' running behavior and reduce the risk of bearing failure caused by an unsuitable grease significantly.

The workshop check shows exactly cost saving and optimization potentials in maintenance. A Schaeffler Group expert closely checks the customer's workshop from a rolling bearing manufacturer's point of view. The expert systematically inspects the various areas - from the technical equipment and operational procedures to the tools used and the personnel's know-how. The thorough check shows exactly where is potential for improvement. Then the expert develops, jointly with the customer, a plan of actions for improving working methods and techniques as well as processes.

These solutions are examples of how maintenance departments in the railway sector can open up and take advantage of saving potentials. Thus, products and services from Schaeffler Group form the basis to increase plant availability.
