Polysius cement production line in Saudi-Arabia to use FAG online CM system and remote monitoring services from Germany
HANOVER/HERZOGENRATH, April 11, 2005 – An order placed by Polysius AG, Beckum/Germany with FAG Industrial Services (F’IS) for an online vibration monitoring system to be installed in a new cement production line in Saudi-Arabia underscores the long-standing condition monitoring expertise of the Herzogenrath company and emphasizes its worldwide service presence. Erected by Polysius AG, a ThyssenKrupp Technologies company, in addition to the six existing plants of Yamama Saudi Cement Co. Ltd., the new cement factory is one of the largest in the world, boasting a production capacity of 10,000 tons of cement clinker per day. By installing an online condition monitoring system with remote monitoring service, Polysius wants to avoid production downtime and make it possible to plan maintenance operations well ahead. One outstanding feature of the new cement factory is its 165-meter DOPOL® '90-cyclone preheater which is higher than all other preheater towers built so far. The production line includes high-performance components from raw material crushers and grinding mills through to cement packaging and loading stations including comprehensive factory automation. Objects to be monitored are mainly gear units (bearings and gear mesh) as well as rotor bearing arrangements in roller mills, sag mills and separators in raw mills, rotary kiln and cement mills. From a total of 109 measuring points, the data are transmitted directly to the PC-based FAG VibroCheck vibration diagnosis system. In addition, the factory will be monitored by the F’IS online diagnosis center at Herzogenrath according to a corresponding tele-service contract. In the event of an alarm, triggered as a result of readings deviating from defined threshold values, the maintenance experts at the diagnosis center will suggest suitable counter-measures after thorough data analysis. These measures are then carried out by the local support team or the personnel at the new cement factory. On-site training also forms part of the service contract. Monitoring of the first components of the mega plant will start as early as this summer. Permanent condition monitoring of plants or their most important components not only permits the detection of incipient failure at an early stage but also the precise localization of damaged components. In addition, determining the type of damage in a rolling bearing, inner or outer ring as well as rolling element becomes possible. As these types progress at different speed, it is possible to obtain valuable clues regarding the required response time. In this way the procurement of replacement parts and the availability of the mounting team as well as the maintenance operations themselves can be planned well ahead. Ideally the replacement can take place during regular maintenance intervals.
FAG Industrial Services GmbH (F’IS) Since the beginning of 2001, FAG Kugelfischer AG & Co. oHG, a member of the Schaeffler Group, has been focusing its service business in FAG Industrial Services GmbH (F’IS), headquartered at Herzogenrath near Aachen. As an independent company, F’IS offers its maintenance services and service products on a manufacturer-neutral basis, thereby helping customers to save maintenance costs, optimize machine availability and avoid unexpected machine downtime.
