Germanischer Lloyd Certifies FAG Condition Monitoring System and F’IS Services for Wind Turbines

Second seal of quality for FAG’s WiPro system – Additional certification for the monitoring center of FAG Industrial Services in Herzogenrath

HERZOGENRATH, August 18, 2005 – After thorough examination, the Hamburg-based insurance company Germanischer Lloyd WindEnergie GmbH has certified the WiPro online condition monitoring system from FAG Industrial Services GmbH (F’IS) and also the company’s monitoring center for wind turbines in Herzogenrath. This is the second seal of quality for the online condition monitoring system which was designed to meet the specific demands of the wind energy sector. The first WiPro certification was granted by the Allianz Center for Technology (AZT) at the end of 2003. With the recent certification by Germanischer Lloyd, F’IS is now one of just a few service companies to boast a certification for its monitoring center in addition to that for its condition monitoring system.

Within the scope of the examination the inspectors checked both the monitoring system and the monitoring service center in theory and later in practical operation on site. Structures, procedures and documents were focused upon during the certification of the F’IS service center. This very comprehensive control safeguards the organizational part of a highly efficient monitoring process necessary to keep track of a larger number of facilities. Checkpoints include courses and further training events for the service employees as well as detailed job descriptions in the service area.

The certification by Germanischer Lloyd confirms the long-standing expertise of F’IS in the development of condition monitoring systems. At the same time the insurers certify the excellent qualifications of the service employees working in this area, whose knowhow in damage analysis is not only restricted to the wind energy sector, but also covers a variety of other market segments. These include for instance, the remote monitoring of drives in cruise liners as well as applications in paper factories, power plants, cement mills or the steel and aluminum industries.

In addition to the obligatory automatic condition monitoring, the WiPro system from F’IS stands out because the amount of data per facility can be kept low without losing any damage-relevant information. Thus the system is also suitable for monitoring wind farms with a larger number of wind turbines.
