Custom-made condition monitoring as a requirement for condition-based maintenance of wind turbines – WiPro monitoring system meets stringent Allianz specifications

Herzogenrath, May, 13th 2004 – FAG Industrial Services GmbH (F’IS) will present a “complete range of services for the wind power industry” at this year’s WindEnergy trade show from May 11 – 14, 2004. F’IS will be at booth 320 in Hall 7, and their activities at this show will focus on the flexible services provided for extensive remote monitoring and diagnosis of wind turbines. With WiPro (Wind Turbine Protection), F’IS offers an equipment monitoring systems that meets the stringent requirements of Allianz Zentrum für Technik (AZT) for condition monitoring systems for wind turbines. This includes compressing comprehensive data without affecting any damage-relevant information they contain.

For some time now, insurance companies increasingly depend on condition-based maintenance, which is cheaper for operators than the previously used revision clause. This requires the use of a condition monitoring system to monitor the insured wind turbine. As a result, complete condition monitoring is becoming more and more important.

Since it is becoming more common to monitor entire wind power plants rather than just individual turbines, the latest emphasis is on strategic maintenance programs and on the planned maintenance of wind turbines in addition to regular monitoring systems. The WiPro system supplied by FAG Industrial Services GmbH offers flexible services that can be customized to customers’ specifications.

One typical example of the success the F’IS condition monitoring experts have enjoyed is the order placed by the Oldenbroker Feld wind power plant, which involves monitoring eight turbines. In addition to the system’s cost-performance ratio, the customer was highly satisfied with the quality of monitoring wind turbines with variable speeds.
